Notes: some Frain love!!
Summary: Francis gets a surprise visit and a basket of tomatoes…..
Francis tilted his head to the side and peered at the basket of….tomatoes….being offered to him. Who did he look like, Romano? But of course, Francis did not voice that thought, instead he put on a polite smile and took the offered basket from the Spaniard.
“Merci, mon ami.” Francis muttered, already thinking who he could give most of the tomatoes. He was sure some of his neighbor, Amelie, would like fresh tomatoes, especially since he knew they were the Spaniard’s best. Yes, she could make her favored lasagna with them!
“No me vas a invitar?” Antonio piped up, still grinning brightly as he rocked on his heels. Francis was startled out of his thoughts, realizing that Antonio was still there. Not that he didn’t like having the other there, it had just been a while and he had been busy.
“Of course! Come in.” Francis quickly ushered his friend inside, gently closing the door behind him. He quickly moved to the kitchen and placed the basket down on the island, not for the first time glad that he had the island added to his kitchen.
“Mis disculpas, if this is a bad time. I had some extra tomatoes this season and figured I’d bring you some!” Antonio stated, having removed his coat and was now leaning against the counter.
“No no, I was just not expecting company, or I would have worn something nicer.” Francis laughed merrily, pushing a strand of his blonde hair behind his ear.
“I think you look beautiful just like this.” Antonio muttered, causing Francis to look at the other, sightly surprised, before he smiled and shook his head.
“Are you staying for dinner, ma cherie?” Francis inquired, already trying to think of what he could make for the two of them.
“If you are inviting me?” Antonio quipped, with a raised eyebrow.
“You know you are always invited to stay.” Francis scoffed, annoyed that his friend even had to ask! Antonio just smiled widely.
“Then why do you ask since you know I’ll say yes!”
Francis tried not to think about how nowadays, Francis wasn’t so sure that the answer would be yes. No, he ignored that thought and instead went about taking out some pans.
“Well, then since you are staying, why don’t you do the honors and cut the tomatoes, eh?” Francis said as he scurried around the kitchen to get everything ready.
“Are you even going to use them? Or is that your way of keeping me busy so I don’t ruin whatever it is you are going to cook?” Antonio teased, already moving to take out the knife and cutting board.
“I’ll be using them! I’ll be making ratatouille!” Francis primly stated, before falling into silence as he focused on preparing the dish. Antonio also remained silent, slicing some of the tomatoes and watching as Francis lost himself in cooking. It was always a beautiful sight, seeing Francis so animated and focused. Antonio couldn’t help smiling fondly, not bothering to feel annoyed as Francis ushered him around the kitchen.
“You know, I missed this.” Antonio muttered, once Francis was putting the finishing touches to their meal. Francis looked up at Antonio confused, “quoi?”
“This. The two of us, enjoying each others company. We don’t do this anymore.” Antonio sighed, reaching over to tuck the always loose golden strand of hair, behind Francis’ ear.
Francis opened his mouth to respond, but he found that Antonio was right. They hadn’t really spend any time together lately, they had been so busy.
“Well, we just have to change that!” Francis stated firmly, causing Antonio to grin widely.
“Claro!” He placed a quick kiss to Francis’ cheek, who just laughed merrily.
“Come, let’s eat!”
